The annual Catch A Million fishing competition hosted by Forever Resorts and supported by Jacaranda RMFM saw a number of fishing enthusiasts return home with the notorious Carp still roaming the waters of the Loskop Dam. This changed when Anel Da Silva from Johannesburg caught the fish on 11 September.
“As a new member to the sport I was afraid that the fish was tagged for scientific purposes and my friend convinced me to weigh it in and find out about the competition” says Anel. “I am new to the fishing fraternity and have not even been fishing for a full year, but thanks to the skill and advice from a great fishing partner I am now the proud winner of R10 000.”
Anel represented the Mpumalanga League and the AHV fishing club during a private fishing competition that took place at the Forever Resorts Loskopdam. She pulled out a total of 17 fish for the day weighing in at 21 kilograms, not bad for a novice to the sport.
On 6 and 7 May 2011 many hopeful fisherman and women will be once again be offered the opportunity to catch the tagged fish, and this time, hopefully, make them one million Rand richer on the day.
