World record handicapped scuba

Handicap Scuba Association South Africa set a new World Record on Sunday, 27 January 2013 at Miracle Waters in Brits when 17 divers with disabilities ranging spina bifida, hearing loss, amputees, paraplegics, quadriplegics, muscular dystrophy, sight impairment and locked in syndromedove  into the waters below for 3 minutes.

“We are thrilled to be the sponsoring partner of such a historic and inspiring event,” says Lara Doundoulakis, Brand & Communications Manager of Forever Resorts, Lodges, Hotels& Retreats. “This proves once again that South Africans have true courage and a ‘can do’ attitude no matter what their circumstances and as a company we believe in supporting a cause that is truly a great example to the rest of our country and the world in overcoming obstacles.”

The president and founder of the International Handicapped Scuba Association  (1981) James A. F. Gatacrealso attended this new record after he trained the first ever course director trainers and course directors and 10 diving instructors (specializing in disabled diving) the week before so that this record diving attempt was possible.

Forever Resorts, Lodges, Hotels & Retreats was the proud sponsor for this day, making sure that this was a dream come true for many and a World First for South Africa.
